Vito's bad day at the Races

Vito's bad day at the races

Back in the day, Vito Lombardo was the fastest in the Street Racers. His Bronco
had a tube chassis, a big bad 460 punched to who knows what, with the great equal
-izer to boot, a nitrous system, not one but two! So with a relative light car with a lot
of horsepower, this was a very wicked ride!   With the short wheel base it was very
tricky to drive, especially  full throttle.
Mid Michigan Motorplex, early nineties.  The Street Racers go to the track. Vito
thrashes on the Bronco to ready for the day. All is well, he clicks off low 10 sec.
runs all day in time trials.  Fairly happy with how the truck is running, Vito dons his
bright orange metal flake race helmet and pulls into the lanes for 1st pass of
elimination's.
His turn is next to the burnout box, the Bronco stalls. after trying to restart the
engine, he floods it and  pushes the pedal to the floor. Forgetting that his
nitrous is on,  with a micro switch to activate.   BOOOMMMM!!!!
The explosion was  brutal, the hood flew high in the air, floating like a butterfly!
Poor Vito was in the seat, looking through a broken windshield with a look of shock
on his face!  He didn't know what hit him, after looking over his now exposed
engine, he realized his error . I believe he had another carb and did get another
run in, but a lesson was learned by a few that afternoon!
